Perineum Pain After Stopping Propecia

After my othe thread on propecia use where I was worried about matery semen from propecia usage, I decided to cut back on usage to the point where I’ve not used it in approx 2 weeks.

However, I’ve now got a dull permanent ache in my perineum area just behind my testicles. I’m also gettign weak erections as well - something which was not an issue whilst on the drug. I’m quite scared about this and will be making an appt with my doctor to go find out what is happening.

Has anyone else heard of these problems? I’m begining to think that propecia is not worth the risk.

I would speak to Dr. Ashcroft but I noticed a reply from Spex saying he was not helping any more.

Get yourself checked out. Get your hormone levels checked too if you can. I had the Libido issues (no morning wood / weak erections, general disinterest in sex etc) after being on it (with what i thought) was no side effects for a couple years. Im off it now a few months and its only now off it i realise how much of an effect it had on me. Its quite subtle so i didnt notice at the time.

Dont think i will be going back on it. Good luck to others who dont seem to have any side effects but not worth these sides or future risk in my book.

Update: I’ve had a check-up from doctor who found no abnormalities with my prostate. I’m due to go back in for checks on the following:

Male hormones

Testosterone Level

Free Thyroxin Index

Haemoglobin

Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate

C-reactive protein

Fingers crossed everything will be okay. When I get the results I’ll chat to her about whether it is safe to go back on them.

Cool please do share them. Ive been off Fin since October since the side effects became untenable. Ive just had the results a week or so re all those tests you mention.

All are within normal range except my Free Testosterone Level which is 12. Normal range is between 8-27 apparently. Im 32 years of age. In good shape and hit the gym 4/5 times a week. A level of 12 is for someone twice my age or more.!

I knew something was up as my libido has not recovered and is nowhere near what it was. Just a general lack of interest/drive compared to a raging one i had. No mechanical issues as such. Its all so subtle though it just creeps up. Needless to stay this has caused serious strife with the missus.

Theres no doubt its due to the Fin. Im now in the process of getting an appointment with a specialist to see what can be done. No way will i ever be going back on that junk. My advice to you all is you have been warned. !

Results came back - all in range.

Doc was going to speak to a specialist in regards to prolonged long term use of Finasteride. However, judging by this article, it could be an uncomfortable read when I get the letter from him:

that article’s pretty scaremongering -what they say is nothing new. The Doctor even cites Propeciahelp.com as ‘evidence’ that Finasteride is damaging. We’ve all been warned about that site

remember we hear all the horror stories - guys who have no problems on finasteride are unlikely to waste their time on internet forums. The penis-shrinkers might be a tiny minority of users

who knows? In the end we’re all guinea pigs.

Wobbly, what did you ask your doctor to do? I think I might go and get my hormones (testosterone) or any others checked out

glad to hear everything’s normal for you

I just told her about my problems as outlined above and told him that I was concerned that it might be linked to the use of finasteride which I was taking 1.25mg daily for the past 2 - 3 years. She knew nothing about this use of finasteride, but looked it up and it is indeed prescribable for hair loss.

It was her decision to do these tests defined above.

The only thing I specifically mentioned was concern about sprem count due to the continued use and watery semen, but she was not concerned - it was not something she decided to check.

There was no criticism of me for purchasing drugs online etc, which was a relief.

Also, more stories from the Daily Mail!!!

Propecia pills: William McKee claims hair growth pills made him develop breasts and wide hips | Daily Mail Online

I am still awaiting a report from her as to whether there will be any long term effects - I think she has contacted an endocrinologist for an opinion as to what I may have in store for myself.

HAHAHAHAHAHH!!! that article’s even stupider than the last :D

gynocamastica’s one thing, but widening your hips? turning you into a woman? Making you gay?

what’s worrying is that if these guys win their court cases, Finasteride may be outlawed and then the millions of people who get the benefits of it, will no longer be able to obtain it

the problem with some GPs is that we probably know more about Fin than they do. The same with the speicalist endocrinologist - he may say ‘nothing’s wrong you’re fine’ or ‘get off the Finasteride immediately!’ depending on who he is and what he’s read.

If all the tests came back normal I don’t think you should go off Fin just because of the scaremongering, unless you want to.

You need to research on drugs that could reverse this side effects…

Good try. Yes Sildenafil (Viagra) or Tadalafil (Cialis). Just use the genuine one, there are lots of fake available today. You can also take androgen as it will reduce breast rather than enlarge breast which is one of the side effects of Finasteride (Propecia)

Just seen this online: NBC Today - Report links hair loss drug with sexual dysfunction - YouTube

Makes me more and more concerned. I phoned up my doctor about the response from the Endo and am awaiting reply from her.

Guys, i havent been here for a long time
But I have used propecia for quite some time and I certainly reckon the side effects are real - maintaining an erection etc for sure
I really would like to hear other people's honest opinions - some of the guys who have been using this stuff for a number of years are you kidding yourself that it doesnt affect you or are you still "working" the same as before?
I hear there's an article today in the guardian again about it. THe bottom line is it's going to affect your testosterone - keen to understand what the guy's view who posted here about his score being 12 and how we could boost? Did the doctor indicate it should increase again or could you try patches?

I have been on propecia on and off now for best part of 10 yrs and in that time I would say I have been effected.

Well I’ve been reducing Finasteride for just over a month now and the milky colour is slowly reurning to my semen. The erections strength is also returning as is sensation during orgasm.

I’m slowly ramping this down, but I intend to start up Minoxidil and see if I can regulate the finasteride dosage to a managable level which should still affect in a positive manner on my hair loss without the side effects.

However, the thing that finasteride is trying to block has some genuine uses in the body which are effected by in a detrimental manner by tring to stop its effect on hair loss.

the studies showed that 0.5mg per day were almost as effective as 1mg per day. Also it takes several days for DHT levels to return to normal, so in theory I guess you could try 0.5mg Every Other Day - high enough to still hopefully halt MPB, but lessen sides
